Mission and Outreach strives to provide outreach to our community, our country and globally, through local charitable assistance, Presbyterians Sharing and Presbyterian World Service & Development. We attempt to inform and educate and involve the congregation in this important aspect of our church life.
Some of our recent mission events include:
- Support of an apartment in Couchiching Jubilee House, where vulnerable women and their families stay for up to a year.
- A weekly collection of food is delivered to the Salvation Army Food Bank along with a special collection at Christmas.
- Toiletries and financial assistance to the Lighthouse (a men’s shelter and soup kitchen)
- Mitts, toques, gloves and scarves are collected at Christmas for the men at the Lighthouse and Evangel Hall. The weekly knitting group provides many of these items.
- At Thanksgiving we shared "the bounty of the harvest" by giving out bags of apples.
- We participated in the annual Faith Fair in April in the Orillia Square Mall, showcasing events and activities in our church. Face painting, puppets "Bubbles" and "Simon", young singers and guitar players livened the day.
- Lenten projects have provided livestock, a maize mill for a village in Malawi; future projects will be to provide a motorcycle ambulance, and to address needs in other parts of the world.
- Ongoing support for post secondary students in Nicaragua.
CANADA and AROUND THE WORLD
‘Presbyterians Sharing’ is the national church fund that supports the mission and ministries we do together in Canada and around the world: for the Life & Mission Agency, Theological Education, General assembly, Support Services. Our gifts go to create, sustain and renew congregations in Canada; to inner city, native, refugee, urban, remote and chaplaincy ministries; to send personnel to work with partner churches around the world; to support international partners in funding church programs.
